Collaborative Compendium
In Design Studio, before working collaboratively with peers, we were to design a research collaborative artists. As a Korean Graphic Designer who is interested in typography, I chose Sulki and Min, as my Collaborative Designers. During the process, I was gladly able to interview Sulki and Min.
The essay is written by myself and the images are found in sulki-min.com.
Designer's Accordion Book
First accordion book I ever designed. It was a challenge to use Indesign to make the accordion book for the first time. It was challenging yet very valuable experience. I found out about lots of fun facts and the one I still remember is that Paul Rand was professor of my professor, Thomas Ockerse!
Identity Design
This is a project that we had to create a design series using system.
I gave my self a commission:
SM Radiology Clinic, a local radiology clinic in Daegu Korea, gave me a commission to re-design their logo and build a system to apply on their business cards, envelopes, head letter and others. This new logo project is crucial in building their new identity with the newly built building. This logo will also be placed in every advertisement and other health campaigns that is made by the clinic. The logo will be hung up on the outside of the building and embedded anywhere the logo needs to be. The logo is designed considering the notion of hospital, radioactivity, and friendly. Also is inspired from the aesthetic of newly built building.
Web Design, UI/UX
In Type III class, we were given to redesign Occupational Outlook Handbook on the Bureau of Labor and Statistic, a government website. The purpose of the redesign this website was to make it efficiently navigable and aesthetically appealing to the viewers. To begin with, I liked the shorten name of Occupational Outlook Handbook, OOH. Since it's a website for searching jobs, I was interested in the aspect for searching with the key words. The original website (https://www.bls.gov/ooh) is very busy and compacted, therefore I wanted to make my design simple and clear in delivering the messages. I chose sky-blue, white, gray, and yellow to not be too intimidating for the viewer to look at. Transferring the web design to an app design was a little challenging but was an exciting experience to explore different navigations and hierarchies.
Mixed Media Installation
Design Studio III | Fall 2017
This is an archive project I did in Design Studio III. My archive is my memory from Portland, Oregon and each layer represents different sections of my memory.
First layer is an essay about when I first moved to Portland Oregon with my family, second layer is a map/pattern of where I've been to while I was at OES, third layer is a pattern of one of my favorite place in Portland, Japanese Garden. Lastly, The fourth layer is all the connection I have in Portland.
Self-Portraits
The assignment was to take selfies of ourselves. Selfies is all about being exposed. Therefore, I thought it would be interesting to hide from the camera, or 'the eye' that was chasing me.
Typeface poster
Helvetica Neue is a typeface designed by Max Miedinger in 1957. I layered all the alphabets on top of each other to honor the geometric and systematic aspect of Helvetica Neue.
Typeface Design
This is a typeface I designed using the grid system in Type I, Fall 2015.
In Korean ddong bae means a fat belly in a cute way. All the letters have a bit of saggy bottoms :)
Color Collages
These are the color studies I did in color class. It was to explore the different shades within the color and also the how small portion of contrast color works.
